# Import Abyssale designs with your API key

> Paste your Abyssale API key in Orshot and pick your designs. Each format becomes a Studio page and every layer name stays as its API parameter.

- **URL**: https://orshot.com/docs/importing-templates/import-from-abyssale

---

Orshot reads your designs straight from Abyssale's API, so there is nothing to export or save by hand. Paste the key, tick the designs you want, and each one lands in Studio with its formats as pages. The layer names you send to Abyssale today become the Orshot API parameters, unchanged.

> **Ownership Notice**: Before you import, tick the box confirming you own the design and its assets, or hold the rights to use them. Orshot takes no responsibility for third-party content, so import only what is yours. The import button stays disabled until you do.

## Before You Start

You need two things from Abyssale:

- **An API key.** In Abyssale, open **Workspace settings → API key**. Copy an existing key or click **Create new API key**. A new key takes about 30 seconds to start working, and Abyssale only shows keys to workspace admins.
- **Designs inside a project.** The importer lists every design in your projects. Workspace templates are not available through Abyssale's API, so duplicate one into a project first if you want to bring it over.

## Import a Design

1. In your [Orshot dashboard](https://orshot.com/workspace), click **+ New Template** and pick the **Abyssale** tab.
2. Paste the key and click **Connect**. Your Abyssale designs appear as cards with their previews.
3. Tick one design and click **Continue →**. Orshot reads it and shows a preview with any notes about layers that changed on the way.
4. Tick the ownership box and click **Import to Studio →**. Images are copied into your **Brand Library**, and the template opens in Studio.

Each Abyssale format becomes its own page, at its own size. A design with a Facebook post, a story and a leaderboard comes in as one template with three pages.

### Several designs at once

Tick up to 10 designs and click **Import 10 designs →**. On a paid plan, each one is saved straight to **Your Templates** with a thumbnail, without opening Studio in between.

## Your Saved Key

After the first successful connect, Orshot keeps the key for your workspace, encrypted, so nobody on the team has to paste it again. The key is only used to read your designs. It is never shown again in full, only its last four characters.

To stop using it, click **Remove it** under the key field. If you revoke the key in Abyssale instead, the next connect reports it as rejected: remove it and paste a new one.

## What Comes Across

| Abyssale layer | In Orshot |
| :--- | :--- |
| Text | Copy, font, size, weight, colour, alignment, line height, letter spacing, background and inline colour markup. Text shrinks to fit when a longer value arrives. |
| Button | A label with its background, padding and corner radius |
| Image and logo | Fit, alignment, zoom and crop, rounded, circle and hexagon masks, grayscale and duotone, colour overlays |
| Shape | All 24 Abyssale shapes, with fill, gradient, stroke, radius and shadow |
| Rating, QR code | A fixed image of the stars or the code |
| Illustration | The same icon or emoji. Feather and Material icons keep your colour; undraw art keeps its original palette. |
| Group | A Studio group, children in place |
| Video (animated designs) | A video layer, with each layer's start and end time |
| Print designs | Sizes converted from mm or inches to points, CMYK converted to RGB |

Rotation, opacity, shadows and hidden layers carry over on every layer type. Google Fonts keep their names; a custom font you uploaded to Abyssale is flagged as missing, so upload it once to your brand kit.

## What to Finish in Studio

- **Per-line text highlights** come in as one background block behind the paragraph.
- **Motion effects** on animated designs (slide, scale, fade) are not imported. Layer timing is, so add the animations back in Studio.
- **Ratings and QR codes** are fixed images. If the score or the link changes per render, rebuild that layer in Studio.
- **Button borders and button icons** are dropped. Add a shape or an image next to the label.
- **Shape patterns**, and AI steps such as background removal, run in Abyssale only. The original image comes across.
- **CMYK colours** on print designs are converted to RGB, so compare dark tones against your printed proof.

## Next Steps

- Open the **API** tab of the imported template. Every Abyssale layer name is already a parameter in the ready request.
- Call it from the [Orshot API](https://orshot.com/docs/api-reference), or wire it into [n8n, Make or Zapier](https://orshot.com/integrations).
- Moving your API calls and automations too? The [Abyssale migration guide](https://orshot.com/migrate/from-abyssale) maps each request field.
