## At a glance

- **One field on the API:** `"translate": "el"` on `POST /v1/studio/render` translates the template's text and your modifications, then renders.
- **More control:** the object form `{ "to": "es-MX", "from": "en", "context": "real estate listing", "glossary": {...}, "strict": true }`.
- **Per layer:** `"headline.translate": "de"` or `false` inside modifications; on multi-page templates `"page2@title.translate": "hi"`.
- **Language without translating:** `"lang": "tr"` (whole render) or `"headline.lang": "tr"` sets the language the text is in, so capitals and characters render correctly (Greek capitals drop accents, Turkish `i` becomes `İ`). Free.
- **What stays as sent:** numbers, prices, URLs, brand names, inline parameters (the double-brace placeholders) and rich text formatting.

Words are counted across every layer and page of one render. Chinese, Japanese and Thai count every 2 characters as one word. Paid plans include AI credits, and an add-on adds more: see [Pricing](https://orshot.com/pricing.md).

## When to use it

- **Multi-market ecommerce ads:** render each product ad from a feed in every country's language.
- **Real-estate listings in local languages:** listing cards and flyers in the buyer's language, with prices and agent names kept.
- **Agency client campaigns:** one client campaign rendered for every market from the same Orshot templates.
- **SaaS platforms:** embed users get **Translate to** in Orshot Embed by default (it spends the owner's AI credits; switch it off per user or session).
- **Multi-language carousels and PDF brochures:** every page of a render is translated in one request.

### When it is not the right fit

- Dynamic URLs: they are public links, so `translate` is ignored there (`&lang=` still works). Render through the API or translate in the Studio.
- Layers written by `.prompt`: write the prompt in the target language instead.

## How it works

1. **API:** add `translate` to your render request. Use `.translate` on a layer to skip it or send it to another language.
2. **Studio:** right-click text layers and choose **Translate to**, or open the template menu and choose **Translate Template** (every page, with a confirm step showing words and AI credits, one-step undo, and the last saved version kept in Version history). **Template Language** sets the language without translating.
3. **Automations:** n8n and Make accept layer keys like `headline.translate` as extra modifications today. Top-level `translate` and `lang` come with the next integration release.
4. Long translations: renders warn when a layer may overflow its box. Set long layers to the Fit text mode.
