# How to get brand, then legal approval

> With the Brand and legal preset, brand approves the design first and legal approves it for automation second. Only then can automation render it.

Some teams need two yes answers before an automation can use a template: brand checks how it looks, then legal checks what it says. The **Brand and legal** preset puts both reviews in a row, with a stop in between.

Approval flows are available on Scale and Enterprise plans.

## Design approved is not automation approved

| Stage               | What it means                                            | Automation        |

A template in **Design approved** is approved as a design only. Your team can view it in the studio, but automation can't render it yet.

## Set up the flow

Each row reads as a sentence, like "Maya can approve or request changes in 'Brand review'." Brand can't approve in Legal review, and legal can't approve in Brand review.

## Take a template through both reviews

From then on, automation renders it. Send any render that was blocked again: nothing was queued.

## Field limits

**Legal review** lets approvers add field limits in the **Approve** dialog: a **Max length** for a text field, **Can't be changed** for a field, and **Allowed image hosts** for image URLs. A render that goes past a limit is blocked with "This render goes past the field limits set when the template was approved", and the field it broke.

## Common problems

| You see | Why, and what to do |
| --- | --- |
| **Legal review** isn't in **Move to** | Legal review only takes templates from **Design approved**. Brand has to approve first. |
| "You're not an approver in the 'Legal review' stage." | Your Approve access covers another stage. Ask an owner or admin to change it on the **Access** tab. |
| Legal requested changes and the template is back in **Draft** | Earlier approvals won't count when it's submitted again, so brand approves it again too. |
| The template is urgent and legal is away | Owners and admins can use **Move without approval** in the card menu. It asks for a reason and admins get notified. |
