How do custom fonts work in renders?

Introduction#

This feature allows you to upload and use your own custom fonts in Orshot Studio Templates, providing more design flexibility and brand consistency.

• WOFF2 (.woff2)
• TrueType (.ttf)
• OpenType (.otf)

Usage#

With a text element selected, open the Font Family dropdown in the Design panel. It has + Upload Custom Font at the top, your uploaded fonts under Custom Fonts, and the fonts already used in the template.

1. Upload Fonts:

   • In the element editor, click on the font dropdown
   • Click "+ Upload Custom Font" at the bottom
   • Upload your font file and give it a family name
   • The font will be available immediately

2. Using Custom Fonts:

   • Select a text element
   • Open the font picker
   • Your custom fonts appear under "Your Custom Fonts" section
   • Select the font to apply it

3. Managing Fonts:

   • Open the font upload dialog to see all uploaded fonts
   • Delete fonts you no longer need
   • Font names can be customized during upload

Families with several weights#

A family usually ships as several files: Regular, Bold, Italic, Bold Italic and so on. Upload them all under the same family name and set the weight (100–900) and Italic for each file. Orshot reads these from TTF and OTF files for you; for WOFF files it only knows what the file name says (Bold, Italic), so pick the weight yourself or leave it on As in file. A text set to that family in bold or italic then renders with the matching file instead of a faked bold or slanted upright. Imported designs (Canva, Figma) look for the family name exactly as the design names it, so name it the same way.

A variable font (one file with a weight axis, often named Name[wght].ttf) is recognised as such and covers its whole weight range on its own, so one upload is enough for every weight.
