Auto-generate featured images, Open Graph images, and insert renders into posts from Orshot templates
This plugin is currently under review by the WordPress.org plugin team and not yet available in the plugin directory. This page will be updated once the plugin is published.
The Orshot WordPress plugin connects your WordPress site to Orshot so you can automatically generate featured images, Open Graph images, and embed renders directly in your posts — all from your Orshot templates.
WordPress Plugin: https://wordpress.org/plugins/orshot
Installation#
- In your WordPress admin, go to Plugins > Add New
- Search for Orshot
- Click Install Now, then Activate
Or upload manually:
- Download the plugin zip from the WordPress plugin directory
- Go to Plugins > Add New > Upload Plugin
- Upload the zip and activate
Connecting to Orshot#

- Go to Settings > Orshot in your WordPress admin
- Click Connect to Orshot
- You'll be redirected to Orshot to authorize the connection (OAuth — no API keys needed)
- After authorizing, you'll be redirected back to WordPress with the connection active
Auto Featured Images#
Automatically generate a featured image from an Orshot template every time you publish a post.
- Go to Settings > Orshot
- Under Auto Featured Image, check Auto-generate featured image on publish
- Click Browse Templates and select the template you want to use
- If the template has multiple pages, choose which page to render
- Map template fields to WordPress post data — for example, map the template's
titlefield to Post Title, excerptto Post Excerpt, etc. - Under Post Types, select which post types should get auto-generated images
- Click Save Changes
Now when you publish or update a post, the plugin sends the post data to Orshot, renders the template, and sets the result as the featured image.
You can also manually generate or regenerate the featured image from the Orshot Featured Image panel in the block editor sidebar.
Open Graph / Social Images#
Pre-generate an OG image for social sharing when a post is published, so platforms like Twitter/X, Facebook, and LinkedIn show a rich preview.
- Go to Settings > Orshot
- Under Open Graph / Social Image, check Auto-generate OG image on publish
- Click Browse Templates and select a template (typically 1200×630)
- Map template fields to post data, same as featured images
- Click Save Changes
The plugin injects og:image and twitter:image meta tags in the page <head> for each post that has a generated OG image.
If your SEO plugin (Yoast, Rank Math, etc.) already outputs OG image tags, disable Orshot's OG image feature to avoid duplicate tags — or use the SEO plugin's filters to defer to Orshot's output.
Gutenberg Block#
Insert an Orshot Image block into any post or page to generate and embed an image inline.
- In the block editor, add a new block and search for Orshot Image
- Select a template from the dropdown
- Click Generate Image
- The rendered image is saved to your media library and embedded in the post
You can regenerate or change the template from the block's sidebar settings.
Upload Receiver (Storage Push)#
Orshot can push rendered files directly into your WordPress media library as a storage connection — useful for automation workflows.
- Go to Settings > Orshot and copy the Upload Token
- In your Orshot dashboard, go to Workspace > Settings > Storage
- Add a WordPress connection and paste the upload token and your site URL
Rendered files from API requests or automations will be uploaded directly to your WordPress media library.

|---|---|
