If your images are made somewhere else before Ayrshare posts them, Orshot is the Ayrshare alternative that does both jobs. Orshot generates the image, carousel or video from your template and posts it in the same API call.
If you use Claude, ChatGPT or another AI agent, you don't need code. Connect Orshot for agents, ask for the post, and it designs, renders and posts it. Here is a real run from Claude Code.

Ayrshare only posts media that already exists. In my test Orshot rendered a 6-slide carousel in 1.8 seconds.
Orshot posting costs $12 a month per connected account on top of a $39 plan. Ayrshare starts at $149 a month.
If you only post media you already have, or you post on behalf of hundreds of your own customers, Ayrshare or a posting-only API fits better. Both cases are covered further down.
Ayrshare vs Orshot at a Glance
Ayrshare is a social media API for developers. You connect accounts, send text plus media URLs to one endpoint, and Ayrshare publishes to the 13 networks its post API lists, with comments, messages and analytics on top.
Orshot is an API for automated image, PDF and video generation from templates, with social publishing built into the render request.
You design the post once in a visual editor, send the changing text and images, and Orshot renders and posts it.

Where Ayrshare Setups Get Stuck
Most Ayrshare automations have a second tool in front of Ayrshare, because Ayrshare posts media but doesn't design it. The friction is in that handoff, and most of it is written in Ayrshare's own docs.
- Two templates, two bills. The post is designed in a design tool or an image API, rendered, then passed to Ayrshare as a URL. A change to the design touches one tool and the caption touches the other.
- Media has to be hosted first. The Ayrshare post endpoint takes
mediaUrlsthat start withhttps://. Whatever made the image has to store it somewhere public before the post call. - X needs your own keys. Since March 31, 2026, every X call through Ayrshare needs your own X API key and secret in the request headers.
- No free plan. Premium bills at signup. The 28-day trial is on Launch, which is $299 a month after it ends.
- Limits cost extra. The Max Pack add-on is $300 a month and raises the posting limits and link shortening.
How I Tested
Disclosure: I built Orshot. I didn't open an Ayrshare account for this post. Everything about Ayrshare comes from its pricing page, its API docs and its Generate API docs, read on October 29, 2026.
On the Orshot side I rendered a 6-slide Instagram carousel with 16 fields filled from one data row. It came back as 6 PNG URLs in 1.8 seconds.
I didn't post to a live account for this test. The publish responses below come from the Orshot docs.
I priced 1, 3 and 10 brands on all three pricing pages, with 3 accounts per brand and 20 five-slide carousels a month each.
1. Generate and Post a Carousel from a Sheet Row
Orshot turns one row of data into a finished carousel and posts it in a single request. Add a publish object to the render call and every page of the template goes out as one carousel post.
Pick this if your Ayrshare flow starts with a spreadsheet, a CMS or an AI agent writing the copy, and someone designs the slides by hand or in a second API today.
Step 1: Design the slides once
Build the carousel in Orshot Studio, or import it from Canva or Figma. Mark each layer that changes (the hook, each tip, the handle) as dynamic, and each one becomes an API field like page2@tip_1.
Step 2: Send the row and the publish object
Find your account IDs under Social Posting > Accounts, then send the row as modifications:
const res = await fetch("https://api.orshot.com/v1/studio/render", {
method: "POST",
headers: {
"Content-Type": "application/json",
Authorization: "Bearer <ORSHOT_API_KEY>",
},
body: JSON.stringify({
templateId: 30138,
modifications: {
"page1@headline": "BETTER COFFEE AT HOME",
"page1@subline": "4 fixes that cost nothing",
"page2@tip_1": "WEIGH, DON'T SCOOP",
"page2@tip_1_body": "15 grams of coffee to 250 grams of water.",
// ...one key per changing layer
},
response: { type: "url", format: "png" },
publish: {
accounts: [12, 15],
content: "4 brew fixes that cost nothing. Which one first?",
},
}),
});
const { data, publish } = await res.json();
// data: one URL per slide
// publish: [{ platform: "instagram", status: "published", url: "..." }, ...]
Step 3: Read the publish array
The response has the slide URLs in data and one entry per account in publish. Each entry has its own status (published, scheduled, drafted, failed or still in progress) and, once live, the post url.
A failed post never blocks the render. You always get the slides back, so a retry only needs the post, not a new render.
Things that bit me
- TikTok photo posts use your caption as the title, and the title stops at 90 characters. Write a short first line.
- Bluesky has a hard 300-character limit, and it is a common reason a multi-platform post fails on one account.
- Pinterest takes one image per pin, so point Pinterest accounts at a single-page template.
- The per-platform limits are all on the platform limits page.
Best for: brands and agencies that post designed carousels or quote cards from data every week and want one API for the design and the post.
2. Post Reels, Shorts and TikTok Videos from the Same Template
Orshot posts video the same way it posts images. Change format to mp4 and the same template renders as a video, then the publish object sends it to Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts or TikTok.
Pick this if you send Ayrshare videos made in a separate video tool, like a weekly product reel or a listing video per property.
body: JSON.stringify({
templateId: 30138,
modifications: { "page1@headline": "NEW ROAST: KENYA AA" },
response: { type: "url", format: "mp4" },
publish: {
accounts: [12, 18],
content: "New roast this week.",
tiktokSettings: { autoAddMusic: true },
},
}),Video templates can carry their own voiceover, captions and music, so the reel comes out finished.
The free plan can try short MP4 renders through the API. One credit buys one second of video, so the $39 Launch plan covers about 25 minutes a month.
Best for: teams that post the same short video format every week with new text, photos or clips.
3. Schedule, Draft and Track Each Post
Orshot schedules and drafts inside the same publish object. Add schedule.scheduledFor with an ISO date for a scheduled post, or isDraft: true to hold it for review.
publish: {
accounts: [12, 15],
content: "Launching next week!",
schedule: { scheduledFor: "2026-11-05T14:00:00Z" },
timezone: "America/New_York",
}A few things Ayrshare users tend to look for:
- Posting media you already have.
POST /v1/social/publishtakesmedia_urlswithout a render, like Ayrshare'smediaUrls. - Drafts before an account exists. A draft or scheduled post can name
platformsinstead of account IDs, so an agent can prepare the week's posts before anyone connects Instagram. - Analytics. Per-post and per-account analytics come back from the API, with daily numbers.
- Expired tokens. When an account needs reconnecting, its entry in
publishcarriesaction: "reconnect"instead of failing silently.
Best for: content calendars filled by an automation or an agent, where a person checks the drafts before they go out.
4. Swap the Ayrshare Step in n8n, Zapier and Claude
Moving an Ayrshare call to Orshot is mostly a field rename, plus deleting the image step in front of it. Here is how the Ayrshare post body maps to Orshot.

| Ayrshare | Orshot |
|---|---|
post | content |
platforms: ["instagram"] | accounts: [12], account IDs from your workspace |
mediaUrls | The template render, or media_urls on /v1/social/publish |
scheduleDate | schedule.scheduledFor |
firstComment | platformOptions[id].firstComment, LinkedIn only |
Profile-Key header | One workspace per brand, each with its own accounts |
In each automation tool the change is one step:
- n8n. The Orshot node renders the template, and its Publish to Social Media operation posts it. Delete the image node and the Ayrshare node.
- Zapier. Use Orshot's render action, then its Publish to Social action with the returned URL.
- Claude, ChatGPT and other agents. Connect the Orshot MCP server and ask for the post. The agent designs or picks the template, renders it and publishes it.
Ask Claude to Make and Post It
The Orshot MCP server lets Claude pick a template, fill it, render it and save the post from one chat message.
I ran it in Claude Code on October 29, 2026. It took 4 tool calls and 36 seconds to get from the message to a saved Instagram draft.

The agent doesn't need a connected Instagram account to start. Orshot saves the post as a draft with its slides, caption and platform, and nothing goes out until someone adds the account and publishes it.

I made the visuals for this week's $10k MRR announcement the same way: Claude designed and rendered them in Orshot from one chat.

Ayrshare has an MCP server too, but it posts media that already exists. With Orshot the agent makes the slides from your template in the same chat.
Rather not run a separate automation tool? Orshot's built-in workflows do the same loop with no code. Copy this one and switch it on:
Ayrshare Pricing
Ayrshare costs $149 to $599 a month billed monthly, priced by profile, where a profile is one brand with one account on each network. Checked on ayrshare.com/pricing on October 29, 2026.
| Ayrshare plan | Per month | Profiles | Trial |
|---|---|---|---|
| Premium | $149 | 1 | None |
| Launch | $299 | Up to 10 | 28 days |
| Business | $599 | 30 included, up to 300 | None |
| Enterprise | Custom | From 300 | None |
A few details from the same page:
- Yearly billing saves 17%
- Business adds profiles past 30 at $8.99, $3.49 and $2.49 each a month as the count grows
- The Max Pack add-on is $300 a month, and isn't offered on Premium
- Every plan includes unlimited posts and API calls, with API rate limits set by plan
Orshot Pricing
Orshot charges for rendering by plan and for posting by connected account. One credit is one image, one PDF page or one second of video, and credits refill every month. Prices from orshot.com/pricing on October 29, 2026.
| Orshot plan | Per month | Credits a month |
|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | 100 |
| Launch | $39 | 1,500 |
| Launch | $99 | 5,000 |
| Grow | $160 | 20,000 |
Social publishing is $12 a month per connected account on any paid plan, with unlimited posts and the same price on every platform. Publishing itself costs no credits.
Monthly Cost for 1, 3 and 10 Brands
Orshot costs less than Ayrshare plus an image API for one to a few brands, and more at about 10 brands.
The difference is the billing unit. Ayrshare bundles one account on each network into one profile, while Orshot charges $12 for each account.

| Setup | Ayrshare + image API | Orshot |
|---|---|---|
| 1 brand, 3 accounts | $198 (Premium + $49 image API) | $75 (Launch + 3 accounts) |
| 3 brands, 9 accounts | $348 (Launch + $49 image API) | $147 (Launch + 9 accounts) |
| 10 brands, 30 accounts | $348 (Launch + $49 image API) | $399 (Launch + 30 accounts) |
Each brand posts 20 five-slide carousels a month, so 100 images per brand. The image API is priced at $49 a month for 1,000 images, a typical entry plan.
Posting alone can cost less. Postiz is free to self-host, so self-hosted Postiz plus a $49 image API is about $49 for one brand, if you run the server yourself.
Orshot's case is one tool, one design and one call, not the lowest posting price.
When Ayrshare Fits Better
Ayrshare is built for posting at scale, and it covers jobs Orshot doesn't:
- User Profiles and a white-label API to post on behalf of your own SaaS customers
- Comment and messaging APIs for replying from your own app (messaging is included on Business)
- Auto-hashtags, auto-repost and link shortening options on the post
- Profile bundles get cheaper than per-account billing past about 10 brands
- Doesn't make the image or video, so a second tool designs every post
- Media must already sit at a public https URL before the post call
- Your own X API credentials on every X request since March 31, 2026
- No free plan, and Premium has no trial
- Max Pack is $300 a month on top for the highest posting limits
Orshot fits when every post is designed from data, or when someone should edit the design without touching code. It also fits when the same design needs to become a video or a PDF.
The social publishing page shows the full feature set.
Other Ayrshare Alternatives
Orshot isn't the only option. If you post media you already have and only need a cheaper posting API, these are the names that come up most. Prices are from each vendor's pricing page, read on October 29, 2026.

- Upload-Post has a free plan with 2 profiles and 10 uploads a month, then $24 a month for 5 profiles with unlimited uploads.
- Postiz is open source, so you can host it yourself for free. Its cloud plans run $29 to $99 a month for 5 to 100 channels, with an API and MCP server on every plan.
- Buffer is a scheduling dashboard first. The free plan covers 3 channels, Essentials is $6 a channel a month ($5 billed yearly), and an API key comes with the free plan.
None of these make the media, so each still needs a design step in front, like Ayrshare does. The Buffer alternative post covers the dashboard side in more detail.
Switch from Ayrshare in Three Steps
Moving from Ayrshare to Orshot takes an afternoon per post format. You rebuild the design as a template, connect the accounts, and swap the call.
- Rebuild the post as a template. Recreate it in Studio or import it from Canva or Figma. Name each dynamic layer after the field your automation already sends.
- Connect the accounts. Open Social Posting > Accounts and connect each platform. Use one workspace per brand if you used one Ayrshare profile per brand.
- Swap the call. Replace the image step and the Ayrshare post with one Orshot render that has a
publishobject, using the field map above. Run both side by side for a week, then switch off the old pair.
Keep Ayrshare for anything that posts on behalf of your own customers' accounts. Running both is fine.
